Origin of Sensei Pots

In 1987, at the age of 22 and after four years potting full time, Ian Beniston had begun to develop his own individual style. He decided to set up his own studio – which he named Sensei Pots, as a tribute to the Japanese Master Potters. His intention was to supply work to local art galleries which was very well received.

In 1991, Ian made the decision to put his mind to making a full time living as a potter, and established the Sensei Pots studio and gallery on Caves Rd in Quindalup. It was a simple set up – a shed, with a gallery space at the front, studio workshop and living quarters.

Sensei Pot moved to Hemsley Rd in Yallingup in the late 1990s and is today located on Huntington Court in the hills between Dunsborough and Yallingup. Click here for directions to Sensei Pots.
